“Usually” above means what most US pickups do, based on common industry practice — some haulers do the opposite, and your city or hauler always decides. When in doubt, check your city’s holiday notice or find your city below.

How the one-day shift works. When a weekday holiday is skipped, crews don’t double up — they push everything after it back by one day. A Monday holiday moves Monday’s pickup to Tuesday, Tuesday’s to Wednesday, and so on, with Friday’s pickup landing on Saturday. A Thursday holiday (Thanksgiving) only moves Thursday and Friday. Pickups before the holiday that week are not affected.
The “In Pacio” lines below describe only what the app does with your reminder — whether it shifts that week unless you turn the holiday off. They are not statements about what your city does.

Usually not on Thursday, November 26. Where it is observed, Thursday’s pickup typically moves to Friday and Friday’s to Saturday; Monday through Wednesday are usually unaffected — but your hauler decides.
Thanksgiving is usually the most disruptive trash week of the year because it lands mid-week and almost every city and private hauler observes it. If your regular day is Thursday and your hauler observes the holiday, bins usually go out for Friday morning; a Friday pickup usually becomes Saturday. The day after Thanksgiving is a working day for nearly all crews — it is the make-up day, not a second day off.
Two things people get caught by: bulk and yard-waste pickups are sometimes skipped for the week rather than shifted, and a few haulers run a completely normal schedule. Your city’s holiday notice will say which. If you can’t find it, putting the bins out the night before the earlier of the two possible days is the safer choice.

Usually not on Friday, December 25. Where it is observed, Friday’s pickup typically moves to Saturday, December 26, and Monday through Thursday usually run as normal.
Because Christmas falls on a Friday in 2026, only Friday pickups are normally affected. Expect extra volume that week — many cities allow additional bagged trash after Christmas and collect real trees curbside in early January, usually on a separate schedule. New Year’s Day is the following Friday, so Friday pickups typically shift two weeks in a row.

Usually not on Friday, January 1, 2027. Where it is observed, Friday’s pickup typically moves to Saturday, January 2, and Monday through Thursday usually run as normal.
This is the second of two back-to-back Friday holidays (Christmas is the week before), so a Friday pickup usually lands on Saturday two weeks running. New Year’s Eve (Thursday) is a normal collection day almost everywhere. For reference, New Year’s Day 2026 was a Thursday, which pushed Thursday and Friday pickups that week.

It depends on who collects your trash. Monday, January 18, 2027 is a day off for many city-run crews, so those cities usually run a day late all week. Most private haulers run their normal schedule.
This is the holiday with the most local variation, which is why the Pacio app leaves it off by default. If your city observes it, turn it on in the app’s Holidays screen and your reminders follow the shifted week.

Usually not on Monday, May 31, 2027. Where it is observed, the whole week typically runs one day late: Monday on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday, through Friday on Saturday.
Memorial Day is one of the six holidays almost every hauler observes. If your regular day is Friday, a Saturday pickup is common — check your city’s notice. (In 2026 it fell on May 25.)

Is there trash pickup on Juneteenth 2027?
Saturday, June 19, 2027 (observed Friday, June 18)
Usually yes. Juneteenth falls on a Saturday in 2027, and even where it is observed on Friday, June 18, most haulers run a normal schedule.
Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 and a growing number of cities observe it, but most collection crews still run as normal. If your city has added it, turn it on in the app. (In 2026 it fell on Friday, June 19.)

In 2027 the Fourth is a Sunday, observed on Monday, July 5. Where the observed day is taken off, the whole week typically runs one day late; many haulers run a normal week.
A weekend holiday only disrupts pickup if your provider takes the observed weekday off, and practice varies more than for any other big-six holiday. The Pacio app follows the observed day by default; if your hauler runs a normal week, switch Independence Day off in the app’s Holidays screen. (In 2026 the Fourth was a Saturday, observed Friday, July 3.)

Usually not on Monday, September 6, 2027. Where it is observed, the whole week typically runs one day late, with Friday’s pickup on Saturday.
Labor Day is observed by nearly every city and private hauler, so the one-day shift is about as reliable as holiday shifts get. Day by day: Monday’s pickup usually moves to Tuesday, Tuesday’s to Wednesday, Wednesday’s to Thursday, Thursday’s to Friday, and Friday’s to Saturday. Nothing is doubled up; the whole week slides one day.
The catches are the same as Thanksgiving week: yard waste and bulk items are sometimes skipped for the week rather than shifted, and a Saturday make-up day can run later in the day than your normal pickup. If your regular day is Friday and you have never had a Saturday pickup before, check your city’s notice rather than assuming. (In 2026 Labor Day fell on September 7.)

Common questions
Is recycling delayed on holidays too?
Usually yes, when the same crew or contractor collects both trash and recycling. Yard waste and bulk items are the exception — they are sometimes skipped for the week instead of shifted. Check your city’s holiday notice for those.
My neighbor’s trash was picked up on the normal day. Why wasn’t mine?
Different hauler or different route. In many cities two streets apart can be served by different companies with different holiday policies. Go by your own provider’s notice, not the street next door.
How does the Pacio app handle holidays?
We don’t know your city’s holiday policy, so we don’t guess it. You pick the holidays your city actually observes, and we move that week’s reminder one day later for any pickup falling on or after the holiday. Six holidays are on by default (New Year’s, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) and the other five are off; every one can be turned on or off in the Holidays screen. Your city or hauler always has the final say on the real schedule.
